If being done by fatty warne makes you a twat, the list is going to be a long one. What is the matter with you? Why do you hate him so much? You were such a supporter of that gibber ramprakash, why the vitriol for bell? Is it because he is ginger? Don't tell me, some of your best friends are ginger...

it is because he is ginger.

But it could be also (i) his resemblance to the shermanator (I'll give the aussies that one) (ii) the fact that he could be as good as kallis but isn't close (iii) the 'autonomaton from the future' comment.

Anyway, where's your wicketkeeping purists response to my call for prior Jarman?

He's got lots of shots but he's not got the concentration. Simple as that. Being a great isn't just about talent, after all - it's about application.

That's not to denigrate him particularly. There are plenty of players in international cricket who'll never be regarded as great. He's good enough to hold his place in the absence of someone better.

The real problem is one of perception. He just looks like he should do better than he does and the fact that he doesn't is an affront to our innate feelings of aesthetic morality. He offends us with his imperfection purely because, on occasion, he hints at perfection.

As with every the concept of the fatal flaw in Greek Mythology, the nature of Ian Bell's batting is at the heart of the conflict in the human condition.

Nothing is perfect, everything decays, everything (and everyone), ultimately, fails.

Watching Ian Bell, like watching a flower droop and rot, forces us to confront our own mortality and insignificance.

Yet again, cricket as art - it is the ultimate metaphor.

I'd go so far as to say he's a cunt.

Heart on your sleeve as ever, Spimmy.

Pat, in response to your 'keeper question, I am now thoroughly converted, and think that Prior should definitely play in tests. Err, sorry that reply wasn't funny or interesting in any way.
