Stanford- lover of the game or emissary of satan?

How do people feel about the stanford business? I instinctively feel it's odious and ridiculous, fucking black bats and silver stumps- exactly what you would expect to happen if a yank got hold of our game. The stanford league in the windies just looked cheap and nasty on the telly, although it is anything but, obviously. I don't care about whether money motivates the players or not, but it feels suspiciously like the ECB has sold their (and therefore all of English cricket's) soul to one bloke who represents nobody but just happens to have shitloads of cash. I will, of course, be watching every ball.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the ECB has sold its soul - it's just committed to five years of going to the West Indies, playing a few games of Twenty20 against mediocre opposition and pocketing the cash. There's no commitment beyond that, as I understand it.

It does have a whiff of tawdriness about it but I suspect that's how ODIs were regarded once upon a time. Look at it as a bit of rough; a gentlemen's secret so to speak.

However, your last sentence indicates where the ECB truly did sell its soul - I won't be watching every ball of the match as it's on Sky who, in the interests of clearing matters up once and for, are most definitely cunts.

Yeah but, which other sport would let its actual national team play against some bloke's 'all stars' team for some of his own money? I don't know, it just seems wierd. Also, the whole sky thing is just not as simple as you ridiculous socialists make it out to be. You'll be telling me you were against the Iraq war next.

Weird, possibly.

The problem stems from the ineffectual governing body, unable to unite and control diverse national interests.

It would seem sensible, say, to follow a footballing model of having (roughly) similar competitions in each country, that then lead up to a international competition of the winners. However, the ICL and IPL fucked any chance of success for that plan right up.

Anyway, Jarms - don't you have a class to inculcate?
