A few things about today:
1. Steyn v Collingwood was ace. 'Brigadier Block' used to be a fast scoring one-day specialist after all. Steyn is a worthy replacement for Donald: I wonder whether he shares Alan's love of hip-hop?
2. Apparently Jimmy Anderson has a very good line in left-arm spin.
3. If anyone says that we were lucky, our lower order have clearly worked unbelievably hard on their batting and are very competent tail-enders. They are not 'blowawayable'. Having Swann at 9 helps though.
4. I wondered whether Cook's slogging against Harris was an attempt to get him out of the attack, thus forcing SA to rely upon their 4 seamers for 5 sessions and thus make the draw easier to achieve. Smith didn't bowl him much today did he?
5. Bell has now top scored in the first innings of the last ashes test, set up the victory in the second test in SA and batted for his life today. Has he turned the corner....probably not...

I don't think anyone would try to charge us as being lucky - maximum respect to all of our batsman today.
There's been a concerted effort to get after Harris from all our batsman, I think. However, you're right - Cook does fancy taking him on more than most. That's because Smith has been trying to get Harris into the attack early on (ditto Strauss with Swann) - a consequence of the 4 man attack that both teams have opted for (half-rat Kallis not included). Left hander who generally gets a good stride in - bound to be effective against Harris.
Bell, hold that thought.
Collingwood - man love. Say no more.
Oh, and Steyn - only reinforced my feeling that he's not a TWAT.
Ditto Duminy.
much manlove and respect goes out to the middle order.
an Australian commentator called duniny the 'special one'. to what does this refer?
there was a nice comment on the bbc about AB calling us cheats (even though he apparently saw nothing), and the fact that he's claimed a few catches which were later shown not to carry. fucking cunt or what.
It is reported that in the penultimate over last night, one of the south africans trod on the ball trying to keep it from going over the boundary. Let's hope it was AB.
By the way, check out the comments of geelon on the lengthy blog on the Guardian coverage of the last test. Picks up ben's point exactly. I think that one needs to rise above it though. When the Aussies were right about their undoubted superiority, we had to put up with all that shit, now we can just be smug about their delusions.
Yeah, being smug, as an England cricket fan doesn't come esay, but I could get used to it. A few posts ago I made a drunken claim that we were the best test team in the world. But as it turns out, that's not a totally ridiculous thing to say. We need to play India at home.
It was Duminy, by the way, with the spikes.
but the 'special one' cannot be punished...
is duminy special in the sense of being a cricketing version of those poor kids at school who aren't much good at anything.
Sorry...he is great...except against the bowling giant that is swanny.
By the way, our 4 pronged bowling attack relies upon Swann remaining as good as he is now. If he gets found out, we'll have to have that fat yorkshireman with the great arm in the team.

What do you mean by Swanny getting 'found out'? Surely he's already been found out to be 'the best finger spinner in the world apart from Vettori', just like Monty was. Oh, hang on...
